USPA NEWS - Starting August 1st, the toll for crossing the Confederation Bridge will decrease from $50.25 to $20, and fares for interprovincial ferries in Atlantic Canada will be reduced by 50%.
The move comes to ease transportation costs for residents, visitors and businesses that import and export goods.

In a move aimed at enhancing interprovincial mobility, Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced a reduction in tolls on Prince Edward Island's Confederation Bridge. This reduction will be implemented in conjunction with a decrease in various other Atlantic travel fees. As of Friday, the bridge toll for an average vehicle will decrease from $50.25 to $20. Additionally, the government will subsidize fares for passengers, vehicles, and commercial traffic on federally supported Eastern Canada ferries and eliminate all fuel surcharges for these services.

The federal government will provide funding to Marine Atlantic to reduce fares by 50% for passengers and passenger vehicles traveling between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The government will also freeze commercial vehicle fares. The ferries of Marine Atlantic travel between Cape Breton island and Newfoundland. This ferry is a constitutionally mandated providing a vital interprovincial link for pedestrians and vehicles. Notably, Marine Atlantic is responsible for transporting 65% of goods to and from Newfoundland. According to Carney, the fee reductions are a key component of the government's strategy to eliminate internal trade barriers in response to the U.S. trade war.

Ferry service between Digby, N.S. and Saint, John N.B. along with service from PEl to Quebec's Magdalen Islands will also see vehicle and passenger fares drop by 50%.
