On 14th August 2025, Pakistan celebrated not only its Independence Day but also the remarkable achievements of one of its greatest sons — Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. On this historic occasion, the President of Pakistan awarded him the Hilal-e-Jurat, in recognition of his extraordinary leadership during the recent conflict with India and his role in safeguarding the sovereignty and dignity of Pakistan.
Field Marshal Munir’s military career is a story of discipline, honor, and service. From winning the prestigious Sword of Honour at the Pakistan Military Academy to becoming the only officer in Pakistan’s history to head both Military Intelligence (MI) and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), his journey reflects unparalleled dedication. His dual command of these two key institutions gave him a rare insight into both internal and external security, making him one of the most strategically capable leaders in the history of the armed forces.
As Chief of Army Staff and later as Field Marshal, he worked tirelessly to modernize the Pakistan Army, bringing it in line with the demands of modern warfare. Under his leadership, the army invested in technology, upgraded training facilities, and reinforced the values of professionalism and meritocracy. At the same time, he never lost touch with the rank-and-file soldiers, regularly visiting forward posts and inspiring his men with humility and courage. These actions made him not just a commander, but a leader beloved by his troops.
What makes him truly remarkable is his unwavering commitment to peace. Despite leading one of the strongest armies in the region, Field Marshal Munir has always emphasized that Pakistan does not seek war, but stands ready to defend itself against any aggressor. His consistent message has been clear: the strength of Pakistan’s military lies in its preparedness and discipline, but its ultimate mission is to preserve peace and stability for the nation and the region. This vision has won him admiration not only at home but also among the Pakistani diaspora worldwide.
The conferment of Hilal-e-Jurat on Independence Day symbolized not only his personal valor but also the spirit of Pakistan’s armed forces. It was a reminder of the sacrifices made to secure freedom in 1947 and the sacrifices still being made today to safeguard sovereignty. His leadership during the conflict with India showcased strategic brilliance coupled with a deep sense of responsibility, ensuring victory without unnecessary escalation.
